Mission and Vision

The Faculty's vision is to be a highly preferred faculty in Turkey and the world in academic and artistic terms, to be a pioneer in its field with its academic staff, to protect all aspects of art from universal to local, to share its experiences, and succeed in being original and innovative with its outputs.

The Faculty started its educational activities in 2000 with the Departments of Ceramics and Glass, Painting, and Traditional Turkish Arts. The number of active departments increased to five with the establishment of Visual Communication Design in 2011 and Architecture in 2014. In addition, since 2019, the Department of Basic Education has been active, providing service courses such as Art History, Art Philosophy, Mythology and Basic Art Education to all departments. Painting, Ceramics and Glass, Traditional Turkish Arts Departments admit students with a special talent exam, whilst Architecture and Visual and Communication Design Departments accept students based on university exam scores. The Department of Painting offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees; Ceramics and Glass, Traditional Turkish Arts, and Visual Communication Design offer bachelor's and master's degrees; and Architecture offers bachelor's degree.

Painting

The Department of Painting aims to raise creative individuals who can identify artistic problems and develop their own point of view, think analytically, make synthesis, comprehend the phenomena of the age, and express themselves through art. During the eight-semester program, an art education is given in an art studio in addition to classical painting education in order to provide students with the necessary intellectual knowledge, technical skills and artistic vision.

 

The studio training, which encompasses the topics on contemporary art, is supported by works created on the basis of sketches and projects.

 

Graduates of our department can open their own art studios. They can also find jobs as designers in the advertising industry thanks to the background provided by the computer-assisted design courses in the department.

 

Opportunities Provided By The Department

Students of the department can pursue a double major with the Departments of Tile Design and Repair, Carpet and Rug Weaving, Calligraphy, Art History, Ceramics and Glass, and Illumination.

There are ERASMUS agreements with Spain, Italy, Iceland, Latvia, Macedonia, Poland and Portugal; and MEVLÂNA foreign exchange agreements with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kosovo, Macedonia, Pakistan and Jordan. The department also has agreements with various universities in Turkey as part of the FARABI program.

Ceramics and Glass

The Department of Ceramics and Glass aims to train individuals who, in addition to being effective and competent in artistic and industrial fields, have sufficient artistic formation, are talented and can use their talents accurately, fulfill the requirements of their profession, produce and implement solutions, and efficiently employ their skills in ceramics and glass in professional life.

 

The graduates of our department can work in the factories (tile, sanitary ware, ornamental and tableware production, etc.) of the ceramics industry, which is the second largest sector in Turkey, as well as in medium and small-sized ceramic workshops, computer-aided design and product development studios, restoration sites of archaeological studies, museums, art studios, academic education and art education programs.

Students of the department can pursue a double major with the Departments of Tile Design and Repair, Carpet and Rug Weaving, Calligraphy, Painting, and Illumination.

 

There are also special interest courses in the areas of Artistic Ceramic Design and Industrial Ceramic Design with the aim of helping students find their area of interest. There are ERASMUS agreements with Spain, Italy, Latvia and Portugal; and MEVLÂNA foreign exchange agreements with Kazakhstan. The department also has agreements with various universities in Turkey as part of the FARABI program.

Traditional Turkish Arts

The Department aims to raise individuals who internalize, preserve and restore traditional art, combine traditional and contemporary elements with their own interpretations, transfer past values ​​to today's generations, design and produce creative works, and create original designs by interpreting traditional motifs, old and new techniques in different ways.

 

The education provided in the department is largely based on practice. Various materials such as paints containing different color combinations and different paper types (oil paper, muraqqa, etc.) are used in courses. The Department of Traditional Turkish Arts have four main branches: Illumination, Tile Design and Repair, Carpet, Rug and Traditional Fabric Patterns, and Calligraphy.

Graduates of our department can be employed as designers in libraries, museums, pattern and design workshops and factories, or as restorators in the restorations of tiles or manuscripts.

Visual Communication Design

As the prominence of the visual culture has been growing in the 21st century, professionals who use the language of images effectively are needed more than ever. Visual communication design is an intellectual, technical and creative discipline that includes producing visual solutions to communication problems, designing solution proposals, presentation methods, organization and analysis. During the undergraduate education, the department aims to train competent visual communication designers with a program that includes various elements such as image, text, content, space, movement, time, sound and interaction.

 

Graduates of our department can have a say and find a place for themselves in almost every field of communication such as advertising, publishing, photography, two- or three-dimensional visualization, animation, new media, television and cinema in private or public institutions. Our graduates who continue their postgraduate education and meet certain criteria can pursue academic careers in visual communication design departments.

Students of the Department can pursue a double major with the Departments of Public Relations and Advertising, and Communication and Design.

 

There are also special interest courses in the areas of Film/Video, Photography, Graphic Design, and Advertising with the aim of helping students find their area of interest. There are ERASMUS agreements with Spain, Italy, Iceland, Latvia, Macedonia, Portugal, Slovenia and Greece; and MEVLÂNA foreign exchange agreements with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia and Jordan. The department also has agreements with various universities in Turkey as part of the FARABI program.

Architecture

The department aims to raise architects who comply with the conditions of today's international architectural environment, have the knowledge and skills necessary for the discipline of architecture, are competent in the fields of architectural design, supervision, management and preservation, have advanced research skills, and put their educational background into practice.

 

With the studio courses that present theoretical and technical knowledge during the study period, it is aimed to produce graduates who can observe their environment and are sensitive to the social, cultural and physical conditions of their environment.

 

Graduates of our department, who are equipped with critical thinking and interpretation skills, can work at academic institutions, research centers or related governmental offices.

 

They can also work as designer architects, implementers or controllers in the construction or project departments of the public and private sectors. In addition, they can establish their own architectural firms.

 

Opportunities Provided By The Department

Students of the department can pursue a double major with the Departments of Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

 

There are ERASMUS agreements with Czechia, Italy and Macedonia, and MEVLÂNA foreign exchange agreements with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Malaysia. The department also has agreements with various universities in Turkey as part of the FARABI program.
